Windows Vista, better late than never!

So, this week we found out that the consumer version of Windows Vista is going to be late. It probably won’t ship until January or February. Yep, right after the holiday season. I’m sure Dell and others aren’t too happy about this. At the same time, an article came out this week stating that Microsoft has to rewrite 60% of the media center code and that they are scrambling Xbox programmers to the task. The same day that seemingly every tech news blog reported that, Microsoft came out in public to throw the b.s. flag. I for one am glad that they did so to what was obviously a huge lie.

I hate liars. I hate when people lie in print. I think that sensationalist journalism is trash. Yes, I realize that this blog is mostly rumors and very light news. Am I not just as bad as those who spread lies? No, I don’t lie on this blog. I speculate on what I think are good ideas and I do my best to connect the dots for my readers. I don’t claim to have special “sources” of information because I don’t. I also don’t claim that what I write is very often factual. Instead, I take a rumor that is going around and I try to make sense of why it might or not might not be a good idea.

In the case of a Vista delay, I say that it’s really great that Vista is being delayed again. As a consumer I sincerely hope that Microsoft keeps delaying Vista “until it’s done”. For most people, Windows XP works wonderfully and there is no real need for much of what Vista is bringing to the table. However, the technology that Vista will enable (especially for application developers) is extremely significant. People are weary of any new Microsoft operating system because it’s always seen as “untested and not secure”. Vista needs to be stellar from day one. The more refined Microsoft can make it before launching, the better off we all are.
