MacBook Pro 17″ Might Drop This Week
I reported on the Apple financial news earlier today, but word has it on the rumor mill that Apple might be unveiling the MacBook Pro 17″ laptop as its flagship laptop sometime in the next week at the National Association of Broadcasters confrence. This machine will probably have iSight, FrontRow, BootCamp and a creamy chocolate center. I’m sure the other zealots out there are going crazy over the news, but I say that this is crap. Why?
Well, the other half of the rumor that has been repeated about a million times by now is that for whatever reason, Apple is dropping the 12″ Powerbook. I think that this is truly a shame. I own a 12″ iBook myself and it’s a fantastic machine. If I could afford it I would buy a 12″ PowerBook. I seriously hope that Apple has plans for some kind of sub 15″ MacBook Pro because frankly, a 12″ laptop is as close to perfect in terms of size, weight, and portability as I’ve ever experienced.
Supposedly the next MacBook is going to be 13.3″ widescreen, which is cool and all, but I’d prefer something smaller. I realize that a bigger laptop is easier and cheaper to manufacture and can give Apple a higher margin, but there really needs to be something to fill that gap. It can’t always be about profit margins can it Apple?
Perhaps Apple’s real plan is to finally take all that tablet technology that they’ve spent years patenting and might put it to good use in a 12″ tablet of sorts. That would make a lot of sense. After all, a 12″ laptop is small enough to carry around and even use as a slate style tablet when needed. It would definately sell to graphics designers for sure. Anyhow, that’s all for now.
