Halo 3 Tralier Brutalizes Xbox Live
So I was on Xbox Live last night and of course there are some great trailers and demos available to the millions of 360 owners out there. Of course, I was eager to check out the Halo 3 trailer on my high-def tv. I’d already downloaded it from bungie, but a 30″ HDTV is a lot more fun to watch than a 17″ LCD. So, I sign in to Live and lo and behold, the Halo 3 trailer is there for download. It’s around 100 megs. Not bad.
I start the download and a few minutes later it errors out. No big deal, I start the download again. A few minutes later the same thing happens. After an hour of fruitless attempts I decide to just download the demo of UNO to play for a bit. The 25 meg game took a lot longer to download than it should have, but eventually it did work. UNO is pretty fun, but it’s also pretty blah. After a game I was pretty bored and I attempted the Halo 3 download again.
This time the Halo 3 download worked…incredibly slowly. I fell asleep before the trailer finished. I watched it this morning and I really enjoyed it. It’s an impressive short trailer. What is even more impressive is the hammering that Xbox Live took yesterday. I’d like to know how much bandwidth Microsoft used on Live yesterday. Needless to say, it was a lot. Microsoft might need a server upgrade for Halo 3. Oh well, they’ve got a year.
