Go Directly Jail, Do Not Pass Go…

Wednesday, December 6th, 2006

A new law being drafted in Germany states that if you play, distribute or create a violent video game you can get jail time. This is according to GamePolitics.com (you can read the story here).

According to a report in Spiegel, a bloody school shooting in Germany last month has led to renewed calls for action against violent games.

As reported by GamePolitics,  an 18-year-old Counter-strike player assaulted his former middle school in November, wounding a reported 37 people before taking his own life.

The rampage led Minister of the Interior Gunther Beckstein to propose amendments to German law which would authorize prison sentences for those who create or distribute game content which features “cruel or otherwise inhumane acts of violence against humans or humanlike creatures.”

Penalties proposed by Beckstein include up to one year in jail and/or fines.

This is absolutely outrageous, although he is at least a little more logical than Jack Thompson. We are living in the 21st century and the average gamer age is pushing 30 years old, we aren’t kids anymore. Leave it to the Naz… err Germans to  restrict peoples freedoms. I can’t wait to see all of the gamer “camps” popping up hidden in the country side.

PlayStation 3 shopper shot outside Wal-Mart

Friday, November 17th, 2006
Now I know everyone is probably sick of hearing about the PS3 already, but no sooner did the words come out of my mouth and I read this article. Apparently, someone was shot while waiting in line for the PS3. Two thugs were robbing the whole line of people when one man refused to give up his money, they shot him in the shoulder and chest, there is no word as of now on his condition. This is getting completely out of hand and needs to be taken care of immediately, if anyone gets injured Sony should set them up with a free PS3. (how many self injuries do you think we would be reading about?) Anyway Sony had better shape up or they are going to fail big time.

PlayStation 3 hotly Contested (Obviously)

Thursday, November 16th, 2006

In case you don’t know or have been living in a cave for some reason, the PS3 is the hot item this holiday season. I have an opinion on this and here it is: Let’s Get Ready To Rumble. it seems there are many, many, many reports of fights breaking out in lines across the country (ok, mainly New York and San Francisco because they have Sony Stores, who each have about 800 PS3’s I might add) The fighting seems to be stemming from the fact that when the lines grow to a certain size the security guards move the line and people try to cut in line. So then fights break out, as soon as I find a YouTube video of a PS3 fight I will post it here, until then good luck to all the PS3 warriors out there and Godspeed!

Oh, one more thing, the entire country of Taiwan is getting only 500 PS3’s, can you really call that a launch? Good Luck to them as well.

Final Fantasy VII: Conspiracy Theory

Tuesday, May 23rd, 2006

This year was a hugely disappointing showing from Sony for one reason and one reason only. There was no Final Fantasy VII demo present. After the stunning showing last year I have been wondering what Square’s real plans are. No company would go that far to make an amazing demo just for fun. So what’s Square’s plan? (more…)

Apple/Nintendo at E3?

Tuesday, May 9th, 2006

For those of you who have been keeping up with the rumors on the internets, it seems that Apple might be announcing the MacBook on Tuesday. What’s even cooler is that the MacBooks could come in both black and white. YEAH! I’m stoked. Also, Nintendo is making their big splash on e3 in L.A. on Tuesday. Could these two companies be cooking up some bizarre plan to work together? Conspiracy theory? Yes. Impossible? No. (more…)

Gaming Rumors Are More Fun?

Thursday, May 4th, 2006

When I started this site a couple months ago, I planned on writing about rumors regarding technology. You know, Google, Apple, iPod, stuff that really gets the internet buzzing. So, I started writing about tech rumors and Apple annoucements and it was cool, but people didn’t really seem to care. Then, I wrote about Halo Online. That is when everything changed… (more…)

Wii to launch in July at $199?

Thursday, April 27th, 2006

For those of you who haven’t heard the Nintendo Revolution is now called the Nintendo Wii. Ok, well I’ve been digging around the rumor mill and talked to some friends in the industry to find out what we can expect from Nintendo as far as a launch date and pricing are concerned. While this might come as a shock to some people, but the Wii probably won’t launch in November. In fact it’s looking more and more like July each day. (more…)

MacBook Pro 17″ Might Drop This Week

Thursday, April 20th, 2006

I reported on the Apple financial news earlier today, but word has it on the rumor mill that Apple might be unveiling the MacBook Pro 17″ laptop as its flagship laptop sometime in the next week at the National Association of Broadcasters confrence. This machine will probably have iSight, FrontRow, BootCamp and a creamy chocolate center. I’m sure the other zealots out there are going crazy over the news, but I say that this is crap. Why? AMD Developing Anti-Hyperthreading?

Monday, April 17th, 2006

According to a guy who reported on some site in a different language that got transcribed and translated about three times before a very loose translation into English, AMD is looking to create a revoltuionary technology for their next generation of CPU’s. Instead of creating more cores on one processor running multiple threads, AMD is looking to create technology that makes the multi-core processors look and act like a single processor to the operating system. Apple Geniuses Out Of The Loop

Friday, April 14th, 2006

Well, I’ve suspected this for quite a while, but it was really cool to read about it. Basically, as an Apple Genius worker explains, most people in Apple don’t usually know what Apple is going to announce. The sales reps and the store workers hear about stuff when everybody else does. Often times this will lead to Apple Store employeed getting burned by new products coming out a week after purchase. What’s surprising is that store workers can’t return merchandise. That’s a bit of a burn to those who buy an Apple product only for it to become outdated a week later. However, as the author so clearly points out, An Apple computer will still be a great computer for years even if it’s not the latest and greatest. As an iBook owner I can definately vouch for this. While I’m looking forward to the next generation of iBooks (aka the MacBook) I’m not exactly hurting because it’s not the latest and greatest. It’s the best laptop I’ve ever owned. Anyhow, the article is a good read and it gives further proof that I’m easily as well informed about what Apple is doing as most people working for Apple!
